Dans le cadre de la présidence française du Conseil de l’Union européenne, la Fondation des Sciences du Patrimoine (FSP) organise ce colloque avec le soutien de la Commission européenne et en partenariat avec le ministère de la Culture, le Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) et les universités de Paris-Saclay et Cergy Paris.

“Adapting 20th Century Architecture to New Climatic Challenges: Methodological Approaches for a More Reasoned Intervention”
Résumé :
If the collective imagination tends to consider architectural heritage in its classical and monumental forms, more than in its modern expressions, French public authorities in charge of culture have taken steps towards widening this limited spectrum. By the end of the 1990s, they initiated the inclusion of architectural and urban heritage born from the industrialization of our contemporary societies.
The creation of the “Architecture of the 20th Century” label, and more recently that of “Remarkable Contemporary Architecture”, allows the recognition of the singularity, the exemplarity, and the innovation of buildings, architectural ensembles, and works of art less than a hundred years old.
However, the issue of preservation for memorial purposes is made more complex by the current environmental imperative, thus calling into question conservation practices and material transformation of existing architectural landscapes.
If current technological advances offer devices that meet the requirements of climate challenges, their implementation methods do not necessarily comply with the protection goals. As part of a transdisciplinary research project in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, the GRECCAU and PAVE research labs, with the collaboration of industry and innovation actors, study the acceptability and feasibility of the renovation of selected remarkable and/or labeled buildings, namely by integrating a “ventilated double-skin façade”.
The main goal is to establish an analysis and decision-making protocol that integrates architectural, constructive, cultural, and symbolic evaluation parameters, as well as energy and comfort upgrading needs.
In this paper, we present the research project’s methodology, based on the first case studies of feasibility and acceptability of a particular renovation device. We aim to highlight the importance of prospective and retrospective approaches that help better inform sustainable interventions on a unique architectural heritage.
